THE BOOK

A life shaped by two worlds

Raymond C. Marra grew up in Westport, Connecticut, shaped by the pull of two very different worlds—European tradition at home and American culture all around him.
His father approached life with intellect and discipline, believing deeply in education, precision, and doing things the right way. His mother brought a fierce independence and strength that could not be ignored.
Together, they created a household that was both demanding and deeply formative.

Legacy

Finding your way isn’t always a straight line.

Growing up in Westport wasn’t what it looked like from the outside.

A deeply personal memoir of discipline, rebellion, and resilience—of growing up under pressure and finding the strength to stand on your own.

This book took years to write—not because I didn’t remember, but because I wasn’t sure I wanted to.

“Some stories take years to understand.”

The Writing Journey

For many years, Raymond C. Marra  carried these stories quietly.

Like most adults, he focused on building a life—working, raising a family, and moving forward. But certain moments from childhood have a way of staying with you. A house. A street. A conversation that doesn’t quite fade.
Over time, those memories became Finding My Way in Westport.

Inspiration Behind the Book

This memoir is dedicated to his parents.
To a father whose intellect and character shaped the foundation of his life, and to a mother whose strength and presence left a lasting mark.

As Raymond C.Marra describes it:

“This book is an attempt to understand the past—not to settle scores, but to honor what was given.”

Beyond the Page

Raymond C. Marra lives in Connecticut with his wife, Laura, and remains especially proud of his daughter, Katherine Grace.

Her confidence, openness, and independence represent, for him, both continuity and hope.

When not writing, he enjoys sailing, skiing, traveling, and the routines that bring structure and meaning to everyday life.
